Hi! I’m Mary Iris Gray - known to my family and friends as MIG. I’m a seasoned seamstress with 16 years of experience in bridal alterations, tailoring, cut & sew, production sewing, theater and opera costuming, teaching, and alterations.

I’m self-taught and love a good sewing challenge.

I believe sewing is an environmentally and socially conscious act. The clothing industry is a major polluter and uses unethical labor practices. Our clothes impact our everyday experience of life, and I want to make that impact a positive and affirming one. Our clothes should reflect who we are, what we like, and how we see ourselves. Our clothes should celebrate our bodies, not just compliment them!

We can do better by sewing our own clothes; by altering, reusing, repairing, and recycling our garments. What’s better than making a true statement while expressing your style?

things Mig loves

taking clothes apart and putting them back together, better than ever

adding more you to your clothes with design flairs like embroidery

helping people feel joy in their clothes and their bodies

helping people learn how to sew (and sew well!)

and, of course, annoying her cats, carol and agatha

keeping textiles out of landfills
